Spend enough time in any industry, and you’ll start to identify the people who really know what they’re talking about versus those that just claim to. Mark Asquith, co-founder and CEO of podcast hosting platform Captivate, is definitely in the former camp.

A 10+ year veteran in the space, and host of multiple shows with over 1,000+ episodes, Mark is one of the most well-known and respected voices in the podcast industry. Known for his no-BS approach and his pushing back on gurus and so-called experts that deliver the kind of advice that actually holds podcasters back, any time spent talking with him about podcasting is a good one. The fact I get to work beside him at Captivate is a definite added bonus.

Recently, I sat down with Mark to chat to him about everything he’s seen in his more than 10 years in the industry. I wasn’t disappointed. We talked:

  • the changing face and challenges of monetization

  • the rise of gatekeepers

  • what independent podcasters need to do to succeed

  • the state of podcasting in 2023 and beyond

It’s a fascinating and insightful chat - enjoy.
