Meet 6 Awesome Scottish Podcasts/Podcasters - Scottish Collab Week Part 1
these could be some of your new favourite shows right here
Last week, I shared how I was taking part in a special Scottish-themed podcast collaboration week, where I’d be highlighting great Scottish podcasts and podcasters. Well, today I’d like to share the first six of these (the other six will be shared on Sunday). In no particular order, here we go (be sure to click the link for each show to follow on your preferred podcast app of choice).
Scots Whay Hae!
I'm not always a fan of multi-topic podcasts, as I feel they can lose focus and, instead of doing one or two things really well, they try to do too much and miss the boat. But not Scots Whay Hae!, hosted by Alastair Braidwood.
An appreciation for the topics and the guests shines through, whether it's talking about books about the apocalypse, talking Scottish hip-hop, collaborating with festival organizers, and more.
As a Scot now living in Canada, Scots Whay Hae! gives me all I need for my Scottish culture fix. Thank you, Alistair!
Mums Mysteries & Murder
Next up I want to introduce you to the Mums Mysteries & Murder podcast, co-hosted by Effie from Scotland and Marti from Australia. This offers a neat twist on the True Crime genre - instead of the usual approach that looks at global crimes, Effie and Marti focus on crimes that happened in their own home countries.
The back and forth between the locations, and the insights from each host on that country, makes this a nice take on a popular genre. Check out Mums Mysteries & Murder below!
Wrong Term Memory
You know when you get two friends sitting in a pub, talking about the stuff that either makes them happy, or pisses them off? That's Wrong Term Memory, co-hosted by two Glaswegians named Jack and Colin.
They give their unadulterated views on newsletters, fan fiction, sales promos, movies, and more. Grab a beer, sit back, and enjoy. :)
Scottish Murders
Scottish Murders is co-hosted by sisters Dawn and Cole and looks at both solved and unsolved murders. As a boy growing up in Scotland, there was always news of horrible murders that had taken place, and how they had come to pass. These always held a fascination for me, as I used to study what makes normal people do bad things.
So, Scottish Murders is a great way for me to catch up on these murders, now that I'm no longer in Scotland. Love true crime and cold cases? Then check out this podcast, you won't be disappointed. Special shout-out to co-host Dawn, who put together this special Scottish-themed week!
Scottish Memories
The next podcast is Scottish Memories, from host Tony Broonford. Tony interviews Scottish personalities about growing up in Scotland, sharing their favourite memories, and places to visit/tips if you're thinking about visiting Scotland.
As someone who moved from Scotland in my early 20's, this show is right up my alley. You can almost feel the places being talked about, and get involved with the shared memories, with Tony only getting the best guests on to talk about their love of all things Scottish.
This is a great podcast for anyone looking to find out more about Scotland, and why it's such a beautiful country.
Scottish Wrestling Network
Next up is Scottish Wrestling Network, for all you wrestling fans and podcast listeners. Hosted by Billy Strachan, meet the new faces and veterans of the Scottish wrestling scene.
I'll be honest, my knowledge of wrestling is the classic WWF era of the 80's and 90's - when Bret Hart (my all-time wrestling hero), Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Diesel, etc, were ruling the world. But this podcast gives a great view of "the other side", and one much closer to home. Great stuff - check it out if you love wrestling too!
And that’s the first part of this bonus newsletter for this special Scottish event - the final part will be sent on Sunday, and have another six great Scottish podcasters and podcasts.
Until then, happy podcasting!
